Chef and Owner of the Beechwood Gastropub
Chef Harriet Clunie knew she wanted to be a chef from the age of six, when she cooked a breakfast for her parents in the kitchen renamed “The Starlite Kaffe.” Later, she went through the Algonquin College Culinary Management program, and graduated with Honours in 2007. Since then Harriet has worked with many chefs in Ottawa, including Matt Carmichael (Ei8hteen), Jamie Stunt (Oz Kaffe), Steve Mitton (Murray Street Kitchen), Warren Sutherland (Sweetgrass Aboriginal Bistro), and René Rodriguez at Navarra.
She was the opening chef at Das Lokal on Dalhousie and started as the chef at The Beechwood Gastropub in February 2016, in March of 2017 the owner sold her the restaurant with her business partner Michelle Comeau.
Harriet believes in cooking local ingredients from scratch with an emphasis on using the whole ingredient, whether it be animal or plant. She also believes strongly about making sure everyone can enjoy a meal at the Gastropub, so accommodates kids, allergies and sensitivities as well as vegetarians and vegans.
