“… the other kind of doctor”

A collection of stories on how to not burn your bridges, unless they light your way.

Maria has lived in Canada for 25 years, arriving from Romania in 1994. She graduated from Carleton University with a degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology. Knowing she would go on to graduate school for a long time, she decided to press pause on academics and travel the world, after reassuring her parents she will become a doctor. She returned to Canada and graduated from University of Ottawa with a doctorate in Microbiology and Immunology. After two postdoctoral stints in stem cell research, and nanotoxicology, she decided to hang her pipettes and become a regulatory scientist. Currently, she is a senior clinical evaluator at Health Canada in the Therapeutic Products Directorate.

Maria feels passionate about excessively many subjects. Ask her how to find a vein in a mouse leg, becoming a runner on a dare, and how to convince little children that Ravenclaw is the best House.
